I got my baby python a few weeks ago and she went in to shed but hasn't been able to get any of her skin off, so i'm starting to worry it's been about 2 days now. I'm going to put her in a wet towel and see if that helps. I was wondering if theres anything else i can do and should i take her to the vet? Her temps and humidity are all fine. Any help would be great, thanx.

if it fails get a damp pillowcase with a damp towel and put the snake in there for 20-30 minutes and that should remove the skin or leave in a box full of spaghnum moss ive had sheds come off straight away with the above lee

Thanx for the help. If i put her in a pillowcase do i just leave her in there by herself to get her skin off?

I would just tie a knot in the pillow case and leave it for 30 mins or so on the bed (stay with it, you don't want it rolling off). This should do the trick, if not then repeat the day after and see where you are then. If it still han't come off then, i would buy some KY jelly and give the snake a rub down with that (yes KY jelly is safe, and recomended by vets) just to moisten the skin and make it easier for the skin to come off.

If you have a royal/ball python I had exactly the same problem. He is an 05 hatchling. Anyway he was having a lot of trouble shedding and spraying didnt seem to help. A good soak did the trick though. I soaked him in body temp water for about 5 min, sprayed his little tank with water, put him back and the next morning all the shed was off. No as soon as I notice him going into the blue I give him a 10 min soak and spray his viv so its quite wet and he has no problem shedding. As they grow up the royals tend to grow out of this problem but it is quite common for the little ones. You could try adding a nice rough piece of bark for him to rub himself on aswell. Let us know how it goes

I gave her a bath the other day that didnt work ive just took her out the pillowcase and that didnt work poor little thing she must think ive gone mad lol. I'm going to try the KY tomorrow. I really need 2 feed her as well she hasn't ate in 20 days because of the shedding problem i was worried about feeding her will it be ok to feed her tonight? I've raised the humidity in her viv aswell. Thanx for all the help hopefully it will all come off soon. =o)

I would leave feeding till monday (unless she sheds before then), just to be on the safe side, as a food item will expand the snake and make shedding harder.

If its still not off then soak her again and put on a pair if rubber gloves, while soaking gently rub the skin off (the rubber gloves do help!!) next time spray her and the viv as soon as she goes into the blue and keep spraying each day until shes shed, then give a soak between the blue phase and the shed, she should shed fine
