If they are snake mites then they will be black with a little white dot on their back. No matter how clean you keep your snake you can still pick up mites easily. They could have come in the substrate, you may have had a few hop on you when you visited a reptile shop etc etc. And they spread from viv to viv really quick. If they are snake mites then Frontline is the best way to go. Its a flea spray available only from the vet. You will need to remove everything from the viv, including the snake. Clean it, then spray with frontline, leave for a good hour or so then rinse well (soak all decor in milton for this hour aswell). It is worth having a little squirt around the viv aswell and a good hoover. Then get a cloth, wet it and spray with one or two pumps of frontline and let the snake run through it 2 or 3 times and return to viv. Just put the basic back into the viv, 2 hides and water bowl with newspaper substrate. Then repeat after 7-10 days. This should clear up any strange creatures. You must do all the vivs at the same time aswell. If they are not snake mites a good clean and substrate change should do the trick. Frontline is about £15 I think (well was last time I got it for my dog). If you cant afford it then try milton/water in a spray bottle and follow same as before for the viv. Give the snake a good soak in WATER and make sure you submerge the head. Not as effective as frontline but if you have caught them early it may work. P.S Dont worry that people will think you are unclean, I can guarantee all herp keepers will have mites at one time or another

Lozzer i've just got rid of mites, they came from a friends bp, and i used a minature bottle of whiskey instead of frontline (it's the alcohol that kills them in frontline), and everything else like Vicki said.
I'm free of them and it only took a week with 3 cleanouts, that includes removing the dead mites and the eggs.

I had wood mite things in my vivs from Hemp bedding. They were little white mites. They dont bother the snake but can annoy it a bit if they are crawling all over it, they wont harm it though. I just took the bedding out, gave vivs and decor a quick clean and put them on newspaper for a week and they were gone. If you take the bedding out they should just die.
Its only the black mites that are snake mites and these are the ones that need to be treated as quickly as possible.
