talking to my best friend on msn today an all the sudden she sent a message saying "ive just found a snake, come round quick" when i got round there i found this    its a king snake and if the owner does not take it back by tomorrow night (we know who it is and think they chucked it out!) i will take it in and try an save it! It has a few nicks in the side which need to be taken a look at by the vets and is showing sighns of mouth rot which im really concerned about!!! whatever happens im getting someone to look at him to see what we can do by tomorrow night! for now hes being kept at my friends to save spread of mites etc and has a water bowl and heat pad under a smallish viv that hes being kept in tonight! atleast he'l make it till tomorrow when i can do more! anyway thanks for looking and comments are welcome! p.s he has been offered a mouse too but wont take it! |

That's a stunning looking snake. I can't see how anybody would want to throw out a snake like that, sometimes people suck.  |

right pic of his mouth, anyone know what this might be, its been like this all day! worried it could be mouth rot   this is the cut on the side, not to bad really!   and just a few pics of him, hes about 3 1/2 - 4 foot and has a lovely temperment, oh an i believe hes a male too!   i will stay up to see how he gets on tonight and let people know in the morning! also anyone who knows what the mouth problem can be or if theres a solution let me know on here or email or pm me thanks guys an girls |

try actually opening the mouth as if it was mouthrot the infection would be apparent but if its hissing loudly and bringing up mucus its suspected RI
best thing is to bring up the heat source with no night time drop and a vet visit for antiboitics and nutrition aid as snakes lack intrest in food while this
again it might just be thirsty and a good long drink will put it right
the pics doesn't seem to be mouthrot unless its in the early stages

well i will leave him tonight and talk to a vet in the morning bout it, the chances are that he'l last through tonight!
i did offer a mouse just incase but i think through all the stress it may be better to let him settle down a bit an sort the mouth problem out first!

The scratch i wouldn't worry about to much as it looks clean, if you do go to a vet tho, i'd have checked to make sure, but i think it looks ok from the pic, and 5-6 sheds will sort it out.
As to the mouth, i don't think mouth rot, and maybbe an early sign of an RI, esspecially if the snake has been out a couple of days in this weather. I would go with dhydration, but i would also check inside the mouth as Lee said, and think that a vet check is in order.

just got back from bj herps, the cut is fine and will just need to be rubbed with vetadine wound cleaner!
I am also using that inside the mouth to stop the spread of infection so hopefully it'l survive!
all in all hes a very healthy snake and will need to be checked out in a couple of weeks time, keep ya posted and thanks to all for the help! ;D

just to add if you suspect mouthrot then it should look like a sticky cheesy substance n the gums and wont smell very nice, ri you will hear the wheezing and see mucus around the nose in the worse cases, we caught mouthrot early and it was just a water/ iodine (sugrgical iodine we got from the vet) solution we used inside the mouth for a couple of weeks. i would sugest as he has wounds on him removing him from woodchip until its healed as the bits will keep getting inside the open wound possibly causing more problems, put the snake on newspaper for a month or 2 just so you can also monitor its poos and incase there are any mite etc on it that you cannot see in the woodchip

it seems most people where i live are always loosing snakes! jerry (from bj herps) has been to 6 call outs and 4 off them are from where i live so i am not really suprised now at this, just p'd off!
