Ok, i've read several times now that its best to remove the snake from the viv, and place it in another container when feeding, why exactly is this? Is it to prevent the snake developing a habit of biting anything that goes into the viv?
Also, the only pinkies i can get locally are £2.20 for three, which is extortion...can anyone recommend a good mail order place thats a little cheaper than that?

The reason people say to remove the snake is incase it takes in any substrate while eating. Substrate like aspen and beech chips tend to stick to the mouse, especially if its wet. If the chips get into the snakes system they may get stuck and cause a blockage. I used to feed outside the viv but TBH its very rare I do now. I just stick a piece of newspaper over the substrate and put the mouse on top of it. All the hatchlings are still on kitchen roll so i just pop the pinkie in their box. Feeding in the viv doesnt usually encourage them to bite as they can distingush between youre hand and their dinner. As for on line shops try: www.frozendirect.com/shop/home.php

Its a young snake, around a foot (pardon the pun), and at the moment i'm still using newspaper, so swallowing the substrate isn't really a problem at present. Thanks for the link, i'll check it out.
