I think that viv would be a bit too big for a snake that young, but you can buy a smaller cage and just put it inside the big cage until the snake grows a bit, if you are heating the cage with a heatmat? A plstic box would probably work well for this... I can see my snakes through them, and they are quite cheap. i can't remember where I got my little ones from though.

I know what you mean Cornmorphs.I went to a shop the other day that were selling hatchling normal corns for £50.Not only was the price bad but there was 3-4 of them in there kept on sand with a normal house bulb for heat and no hides what so ever.

Yeah, 1/3 of the box goes over a heatmat attatched to a thermostat. Not that big at all, probably about 1 foot or under.

yeah, i think it would be totally fine if you put a 16 week old ball python in that tank, i had my ball python at 14 weeks old and i had a tank pretty much identical in size to yours and it was fine . (probably because it had alot of hides and some logs for it to climb on)

Well you should have at least 2 hides anyway. Avoid having too much empty space and it might work, depends on the snake. Some would be fine, but some are really nervous and it wouldn't work for them. It woul dbe much easier to start it out in a smaller cage, but if you really want to put it straight into the big cage, just make sure the snake isn't nervous and is eating well already.

Will you be putting that backing stuff around three sides of the cage? If not, it might be a good idea to make the snake feel more secure.
Good luck, anyway.

anything thats not going to let in light, snakes will feel threatened and open to attack if 3 sides are not covered
also i'd say your best of starting with a corn, bp's are very hard to consistently feed an if you've not had a snake before then you wont have experiance in feeding them (i havnt noticed anything saying you have any other snakes so i appologize if that is wrong)
all i can add is that i have all three of the snakes you are thinking about purchasing and the easiest, good tempered and cheapest snake in my opinion is the corn snakes, from there on if you feel you are ready for another snake you can try a royal python
