OK, I am going to start off with the honest truth that in my opinion backgrounds look naff. I Don't even use them on my fish tanks. That is apart from plain black or blue. And if you use real plants or branches the picture appears immediately fake. Why not just buy a large artificial plant to cover most of the back.
Sorry about that, it is of course your decision. So suggestions, i presume you mean inside the vivarium. If it is on the outside stick it on with Vaseline. On the inside either PVA glue or aquarium sealant should work. However, ready for my top tip of the day, use 4 magnets at the corners, they will be easy to move around, not permanent and hold the thing easily. Get good strong ones and this may be your best option. Of course the snake will be able to get behind this but that isn't really a problem. This means if you are not happy with it you can change it.

I have background on 1 of my stacks, i used border paste to stick it on. My other stack i just varnished the wood a few times and i think it looks much better. It`s a matter of taste when i did my 1st stack nothing or nobody could have told me not to put a background in but now after having it over a year i prefer the plain back.

I don't use backgrounds for my viv's, but i used to when i had fish. If it's a tank and the background is going outside, then double sided tape works wonders, lol.
If it's for the inside tho i personally would use pva glue as it's water based, dries resnobley quick and doesn't smell that much.

I agree that double sided tape would work well but you will never get the best out of your background that way. Vaseline brings out the full colours into your tank.

Well thanks all for the info. John I have thought about it and your right a background would look naff, so im going for a large ivy along the back and a couple of real spider plants.
