Hi my names Heather and I hope its ok for me to post this, as I don't actually own a snake at this point, which is another reason for me posting it. I have recently come to the conclusion that what my life needs if a snake in it. As i'm temporarily living with the parental unit at this time, hours upon hours of begging had my mom agreeing to let me have ONE snake...now heres the probem I had my heart set on a ball python, but the beauty of the corn snake has grabbed my attention. Not to mention how many snake breeds there are out there, and theres my dilema. I have read the posts on here for a couple of weeks and just got my courage up to post this. I know most of you out there have other breeds then just the cornsnake and I was just hoping for advise or opinions from you guys. I have the list down to a ball python (piebalds are still too rich for my blood) rainbow boa, or a corn. And then we have to get into if I pick a corn then I have to pick the morph I like the best and there are already about 5 that I adore. Help lol its all very overwhelming.

When i was getting into snakes i was told to get a corn because they are hard little things that are so docile and easy to look after. royals are also placid but you need to be sure you will have the room for one when it gets to its full size and if u get one thats not feeding that may just put you off snake ownership altogether. anyway hope that helps welcome to the forum

I was under the impression that the Rainbow Boas and ball Pythons didn't get very big, as long as we arn't talking over 9ft long I can handle the Python and the boa. I think I may have decided to just start with the ball python, because I can't even begin to try and decide which corn I want. Also does anyone now where I can find the laws govering the snakes I can have for my state?

A corn is aadeal as a first snake, bp's can be a little fussy and flakey sometimes (with regards to feeding), rainbow boa's are great also but their average humidaty needs to be kept pretty high and maintained at about 50-60% 24/7, and as hatchlings can sometimes be snappy untill they calm (but so can any snake).
Size wise, corns are usually about 3 foot for a small adult, and top out at just ver 5.5 foot for a big male. BP's are the same sort of size lengh wise, but are a much heavier bodied snake and will grow as thick, if not thicker then your forearm. Rainbows average about 6 foot for a brazilian, with around 7 foot or bigger being a huge rainbow. Columbian rainbows average about 5 foot, with 6 foot being huge. Brazilians are the biggest in the rainbow boa range.
As to laws, could you let us know which state your in please? Differant states have differant laws, and knowing the state will help to pin point any laws needed/not-needed to be known.
Oh and btw, welcome to the forum.
