Well, I recently ran in to a bit of cash and have to decided to get a new snake. I went into the store and saw they recently got some ball pythons. I want one of them, but I also want another corn. Anyone wanna help me decide which to get?

Personally a corn snake, but eather should be fine, just make sure the BP is eating great and that it's captive breed and not captive farmed or wild cought as c/f or w/c are more likley to be non feeders.

Personally, I would go w/ the ball python, tho like John said- make sure they are c/b and are feeding good. Pythons are known to be picky eaters. Plus, their husbandry is going to be slightly different then a corns- balls need higher humidity and such. But as long as you do proper reasearch ( like any animal you may want tp buy) I am sure you'll do just fine w/ which ever you choose to get. Balls are not as speedy as corns, they also tend to not be as spastic. Pythons are funner to handle (IMHO) I used to have a corn, but she managed to escape and I have yet to find her , so my opinion may be jaded a bit. ( i will never get another corn! at least not a baby one, I couldn't go through loosing another snake, just thinking of peaches makes me so upset) Either weay, you cannot go wrong. Any kibnd of snake is awesome to own. Well, maybe not a venomous one! LOL. Let us know which you decided to get! And of course take pics. edf

Thanks edf, i talked with my mom on the ride home from the game tonight and we decided if we can figure the gender of my ghost out, she will try to get me a butter of the opposite sex so we can have a try at breeding them. Only thing I'm worried about now is the size difference there is going to be between them, George is at about a 16-17 inch shed now, so not sure if there would be a really big difference. But thank you guys for makin my desicion easier

Before you buy a bp do plenty of research!! Anybody can go in and buy one but you can bet that if they havnt researched everything then you will end up with too many problems to handle, i have never brought a snake (or other animal) without a little (or lot) of research! With that in mind you will enjoy owning a bp

lol, yeah, thats a given- research! ;D But as long as you are willing to learn and take the time to take care of a bp and do so for the rest of its life, it'll be a good decision. Actually, in order to own any animal you have to make time for it. If you are doing good with your snake now, then it will not be much more of a hassle, just bare in mind the corns and bp's have different care ( such as humidity and temps ect.) But it's basically the same- making sure temps are right and humidity is correct, the same concept but the temps and such are a bit different. Corns are definatly easier to take care of, but it's fun to have a veriety of snakes. I dont know any info on breeding, BUT one thing I do stress is to reall ythink about if you want to breed- you need to be responible when you take on the care of any pet, and when you want to breed them, it takes even more responsibility.( wich I am sure you already know) One thing to ask yourself- if you for some reason cannot sell the hatchlings, are you prepared to take care of them all? Say your snake double clutches, and alot of the babies live, that can be a lot of snakes you are responsible for. Now, I am not a breeder, so I don't know how much they are in demand and all, but that is something you should consider. The only thing I ask is that you do a lot of research before you breed and all, (don't think of this as me trying to discourage ya or anything.) Basically, just don't rush into anything. You will have plenty of time in your life to get a chance to breed snakes and such. I am sure breeding snakes is a wonderful and rewarding experience! For me, honestly, I am not ready to take that step. Plus, I don't even know if I have a female ball, LOL. I know damien is male, and th ebaby I am not sure of, and since I bought the baby ball just for a pet, right now I don't really care of it's gender- i'll love it weather its a boy or a girl...LOL. Perhaps in the future I may breed, but I'd have to have alot ( and i mean A LOT) of questions answered first. But that is great news that your mom is letting you get another snake. Heck, it is great your mom let you get one snake! I couldn't own snakes until I got out of th ehouse- my mom would not allow it! Plus, we have cats at mom's house, so I didnt really argue. I didn't want to be smelling like cats when I handled my snake, and with the way our cats shed, its imposible to step one foot in the hous eand not be covered w/ cat hair. LOL. Have fun w/ your snake collection!! edf BUT since you state you are interested in breeding, then I suggest you do stick with corns, seing how you couldnt if you got a bp ( well, unless your mom lets you get another snake as well that is )

edf thank you a lot, i just realised if I do breed and can't sell them all there is no way I could take proper care of the babys since at the moment I am only 15 and cannot find a job anywhere. I think I'll look into breeding once I'm out of college and have my own house so I'll have the room incase I dont sell all the babies. Thank you all so much, I'm off to do some more research on bp's
