Hi again, got another really silly question. Do any of you let your snakes roam about a room freely? Every time I get Homer out I am always holding him or he is VERY nearby. Thought he would like to explore more but scared he'll get trapped behind a radiator or find a very small hole somewhere and make a run for it or something. What do you guys do?

i only let the snakes slither on the floor when supervised and its only my biggest snakes like the royals, taiwans and others ill let on the floor as hatchlings can be rather quick once theyve sensed freedom lol i let the lizards like my beardies for excercise and a run about lee

We hold the snakes at all times. We worry about them finding a place to hide where we'll never find them again. Sometimes we'll let them explore the couch a bit, but that's the extent of their freedom. But my snakes are still very young, so perhapes when they're older we might let them roam about a little.

I let my adult (venus) room in the living room, but only under supervision and with both doors shut so she can't escape.
Chocky and blizzard i let have free roam of my bed, usually with me on it so i can grab them if they feel like "wandering over the edge".

I let mine roam in the living room its surprising where they get to. I have a wotnot in the corner and one of mine climbs up every shelf to the top sometimes it continues on across the dado rail or else just comes down again. I have a problem with the same one going into the electric fire i never have the heat on but do put on the light so that the flame flickers so when the snake is out off goes the light cause it may get burned on the bulb. The only way to get it out is by unscrewing the front off.Every nite that this snake is out it finds a new hiding place Friday nite past it was a empty video case lol.

I do let mine occasionally but I find that if I let them on the loose they will always poo on my new carpet! I find they get a bit nervous and prefer it when im holding them. Also they always go around the edge and manage to find wires and things, they can move really fast when they want to! But as long as you supervise them then its find, just be aware that they can get into really small spaces and move quick. I find the best place is my hall as its got wooden floor and no furniture in!

yeh i let them roam in my hall aswell, wooden floors, no where for escape. i close all the doors in my hall and stick indy in..then go watch tv or whateve as i know for a fact theres no where to escape...i once put a hide at the oppisote end of the hall with a fuzzie in it for indy..left him alone for 30 mins and went back it the fuzzie was gone and indy was hiding all snug..good way to promote natural hunting id say so yeh its a good idea under certain circumstances never ever ever would any of them get free roam anywere else tho as my house is an old one with uneven skirtin boards..so thye might find a wee gap under one (hall was done up last year so its all secure)

Thanks alot for advice. Think I'll stick to holding him for now until he's bigger> Then there wont be any tiny holes I havent seen for him to escape through! Saw a snake leash the other day when I was out puchasing 2 more hides!(not that I spoil him) It's good to have variety but I don't think I could take him for a walk with a leash round his neck!?!? Wouldn't it have to be quite tight so he couldn't slither out of it? Don't fancy that at all!

Theirs a thread somewhere about the lease idea, i think most off us were agreed it's a good idea in theory, but the practicality were a m=no-no. Like you said it would had be vertually strangualing to be effective, I don't want a snake that can hang itself.

Carmello is still too young. He can get into small cracks. The only place I could think of that is snake proof is the toilet ;D
For the moment he'll have to deal with me holding him.

I hope you have a bed Baz . Their ideal for smaller snakes to crawl on, just make sure the little 1 doesn't go over the edge and for 20-30, he'll have roaming freedom (just keep newspaper handy, mine always go when out and i manage to catch it) .

;D Thanks again for advice! Dont think I'll chance him escaping! Stick to holding him and sofa for a while. At least till he's big enough not to escape behind a skirting board or something daft! ;D Might make him a run! Any ideas? Make the room into a viv?! That would be almost escapeproof!
