I phoned my vet and said "do you handle snakes?" The receptionist said "yeah, no problem. Bring it in!" So i take frankie in, and the vet says "im scared of snakes" so i say "i thought you handled snakes" and he says "Thats Steven, he's in on Wednesdays" So i had a wasted trip. Silly receptionist!

Yeah I wouldn't trust any of the vets near me with my snakes. Luckily the guy at my reptile shop does them. I think that if the people at reptile shops are really into reptiles they should know how to probe snakes.

Agreed 100%, they should also have a vet that they themselfs use and are satisfied with so their customers can take their pets to see the same vets. I know the local vets to me don't deal with snakes, but they will do poop samples for me and perscription for oral medication (except surgery or injections). If i need an injection/surgery for mine i would go to my nearest reptile vets which is about 6 miles away.

It happens that the vets I use is the same one the man at the reptile shop uses. They will also do poop samples and oral medication. I think that my closest actual reptile vet must be in Edinburgh( there is defiantly one there). Anyone selling animals should aim to give their customers as much information as possible.

I do agree Jimbo that anyone who owns a reptile shop should have 1 person who can sex the animals, even if teranchula's are only gues work (their the hardest to sex, most snakes and reptiles can be probed, T's cant be).
I know if its a sexing issue near me then both my local vets and reptile shop give whoever it is thats enquiring my number as i can probe and pop snakes, and will be able to probe other small reptiles from december (doing a small reptile course then, can already do larger reps like iggy's and dragons, just the small ones i'm not really qualified to do).
