Can anyone help? Something very strange happened last night with my eldest corn. I gave him his food as normal & everything was fine. I always closley monitor them while they are eating just incase any problems occur.. About 5 mins after he had stopped eating, I noticed that he was biting his own back he had his whole mouth around the width of his back as if he was trying to eat himself !?! I misted him with water to make him stop & he let go, however I thought this very, very odd .. The only thing I can think of it being is as he had constricted the mouse he had picked up the scent from his back & thought yum yum...more food.. anyone seen this type of thing happen before ? Im baffled ! & a bit worried ! thanks

I have never heard of that happening before and really dont know why he would do it but it does sound the logical answer you gave would/could be the reason.

I've seen thjis once with zeus as a baby, i was told that it was a way to help a meal thats stuck go down, but i wasn't so sure about the anwser, Still not sure but she's never done it since.
As to suggestions yours does sound logical Lisa, but still i'd like to know if their have been any other similar cases? and what suggestkions other people have?

Other than the scent of the mouse on him from constricting, I havent a clue ! So any other possibilities that are posted would be appreciated Also, This happened to my biggest guy (picture to the left!) who I have been told is overweight, havent changed the size of food & I know for sure he could handle allot bigger so i dont think it was to help the mouse as it was stuck.. who knows!! thanks

Hehe, one of my BPs did that while being fed in the shop, only she just kept biting herself, probably confused why eating her food was hurting... ha!
Looked like it was just because she was having trouble finding the mouse. Much like my male rainbow, when he gets into feeding mode, everything moving looks like food to him.

I do think my little bp might have something wrong with her, I'm sure I saw her biting her waterbowl once.
