I went to feed my corn this afternoon- and there was no corn in my cage. What really gets me pissed is I do have good cage locks on the cage, so I amclueless asto how she got out...
but my main concern is findingmy baby! Any suggestions?
And the thing is... I am a messy person... i have junk all over the place, mso there are tons of hiding places for her. she could be anywhere... I am still tearing apart my apartment looking for her, but if she got out of my apartment... i don't know what to do! The last time I remember seeing her for sure was tues. or wedsnday of this week.
Now for the apartment thingy- my landlord knows we have a python, i never asked if it was ok to have another snake, since they said animals that live in an aquarium are ok. ( cats are aloowed, but have topay a pet fee) So, out of respect of the landlord and th eneigbors, should I let them know my corn snake is out and about? Or would that just cause too much panic?
I feel so irrisponsible for loosing her, but I honestly did not see how she could escape her cage with cage locks on it.
So, should I leave pinkies out and hides in hope that she'll smell th efood and hide in a hide close by? Could I scent items in hope of drawing her out? I never lost a snake before, andother then just plain looking for her, I am out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated!

Oh, ok, awol must mean escaped... I just read other posts. Plus, after a bit of searching, i took a little break and searched thenet. I have traps set ( pinkies in empty soda jugs)
the only thing is... do pinkies smell?
I scented the jars with the rat we were thawing for the python ( gonna try f/t again with him, hope he eats it,but ifnot, i'll just put the rat in a box and have one more trap)
I just hope she didnt getout our apt door, there is a huge gap there.
anyways, I think i am set for now. i'll keep ya's posted.

You seemed to have read up on this and have done some of the usual things. I have never had one escape (had close shave) but iv`e read that flour sprinkled along the edge of walls/doorways will let you see if they have been in that area also a few carrier bags just left on the floor near the edges as well, if they were to crawl over the bags you would hear the rustling noise. Can`t help much further......i do wish you luck that you find it again soon.

I don't have any flour... but i am gowing grocery shopping tomorow, and will pick some up. I do have a question... do pinkies smell? I smelt one, didnt smell anything, then I smelt the dead rat, and smelt a smell from that. Is the pinkies scent going to be strong enough to attract the snake? Or should I use a mouse? the only concern I have with using a mouse is the mouse would be too big for th esnake to eat, and I am afraid that th esnake would try to eat it and choke... I talked to people at the pet store, they said chances are i'll find the snake. The only thing that worries me is is th edoor gap. The snake may not even be in my apt still. BUT I am not going to loose hope. I tried to nap today so I can stay up at night to look for her. I will use some plastic bags in hopes of hearing her. Funny thing is, the other day I swore i heard something, but since I didn't realize my snake was missing, i thought nothing of it. Erg. I just hope I don't find her dead, i'd rather not find her at all then to find her dead, in hopes she is still living somewhere... even if its not in my apartment. :sigh: I am optomistic with the pinkies tho, its time for her to feed, so she should be nice and hungry. Thankyous both for your words and support! Oh, a worker at th epet store lost an animal... found it about 6 months later in some x-mas boxes... must have been either a late/early xmas surprise...LOL edf

Pinkies will work, but i would et a fussie and brain it (use a pin and go through the skull so blood and brain scent can be released). You probably won't be able to smell it, but any snake will easiley pick up on the scent.
Good Luck, and keep possative.

Well, I got 5 fuzzies, and made them bleed, and set up 5 more traps. I am still looking for her, the three pinkies I got th eother day are still there and I am trying my best to stay positive, but the more I look, the more holes/ carpet torn up I amfinding, so there is more chances for her to get under the carpet or between the floor or out of my apt. And there is only so much I can do when I don't own th eplace where I am staying at. I am working on moving some big furniture today and going through the huge closet that has tons of places she canslip into. egads! I did buy some flour, where is th ebest place to spread it? along the sides of rooms and across the door? That is what I am assuming, and will try once I put it down later tonight. Thanks John and everyone for your advice and best wishes, I really appreciate it, makes me feel less helpless about the situation. Also, what amount of time should go by should I assume that she is either dead or no longer in my apt? I know my python whent 3-5 months not feeding, but he is full grown. My corn is about 12 inches long, and is still a youngin'... i was feeding her a pinkie every 5-7 days. I dont know offically how old she is, but I am assuming that since she is not full grown, she won't last as long w/o food. I will keep pinkies/fuzzies out... but if I don't find her ina looong time, well, I just don't like having dead fuzzies in the apt... we already have a roach problem and I am sure this wont help it at all. I am prolly really jumping th egun here- i may find her once I move some big furniture... i really hope so. Every little noise I heard last nite I was sneaking up on the traps. :sigh: Curse the fact that corns are escape artists!! LOL, if only I could make her wear a collar with some device on it, that way I'd always be able to locate her. However, I don't think snakes would like collars, especially if my cats dont like them ( cats are at mom's house, not my apt, thankfully) Well, time to move stuff around. edf

well, i am still looking for my corn I set ou tth eflour traps, no signs of her slithering through them. No pinkies/ fuzzies taken, and no matter howmuch searching i do, i come up empty handed. Plus, the more I look for her, the more holes in the floor I find. I didn't think our apt had so many stinkin' holes! well, if she can go in them, I am sure she can come back out of them. I been looking at night at well, but no luck. I just have to buy some more fuzzies and set more traps. I hope I find her, but if I don't ( or even if I do) i am going to replace the screen lid and get one that doesn't open half-way. thats prolly how she escaped even with the cage locks on and a book for th eheat lamp. :sigh: But to bring up some good news, I found a bunch of things that I was looking for- several inking pens, lots of markers that fell of my drawing table, and I even foud 5 bucks! Maybe I'll find my corn snake when I am looking for soemthing else...LOL. edf
