Adders are very common in my area, Ayrshire, and on the Isle of Arran, if anyone has got any interesting info on them i'd like to see it
The Adder -Vipera berus- is Scotlands only poisonous snake and has claimed a few lives in it's time, although this is a very rare occurence and there has been no record of a death for a number of years. The other snakes that occur are not poisonous, they are the grass snake and the slowworm. The Adder is found all over the mainland and on some of the islands but is more common on the dry moorland in the east of the country.

They go black if they nest in compost heaps. I have only once seen a fully grown one here although a baby did turn up in my pimary school playground.

1 was found dead near me, it was in the road and apparntley came down from 1 of the local farms who were using pestasites. I do know they are rare near me tho, but their is still a small population. Grass snakes are more common near me tho, i've seen a few in the wild.

Oh ok males tend to be alot smaller than females and are usually black and white where as females are a bit more colourful but its kinda hard to tell from the photo.

Dave I am a volunteer snake catcher in Cape Town, South Africa and my clothing is usually a pair of shorts, sandals and a hook stick. I remove anything and have survived 20 years doing this. Loose the gloves mate. ;D
