Very nice looking snake, Lee. I'm a bit confuzzled Corn snakes are just captive bred Red Ratsnakes, correct? Here in the US almost every state has some kind of Ratsnake in it. Here in Massachusetts, we have Black Ratsnakes. Unfortunately, they are endangered and only 2 known substantial colonies exist. Florida has Reds as well as Yellows. I've seen green ones, too, I think from Arizona/Nevada. West of the Mississippi river is where you can fing Great Plains Ratsnakes. Sorry to go on and on. I'm out of work ill today.

Corn was origanally dirived fromrats, but i'm talking as far back as the begining of the last ice age, now they are just distant cousins but a seperate snake in their own right. Thats as far as my history goes on this, anyone else know anything?

some ratsnakes are still under the pantherophis latin name much like the cornsnake so not really sure but the colouration changes can be explained by different localities in cornsnakes such as okeetee or the miami where they have darker saddling or grey to help them blend in with the environments they live in,just about evolution really because its like the epicrates cenchria in south america where theres different types for every location i south america and all vary in colouration but all the same speices all to do with environment they live and i think the colour helps them cope in it lee
