I built a new vivarium for Carmelo. I am not a master at DIY, but I’ll show you what I did, so anyone else can do the same or better…<br>
I bought a hanging kitchen cupboard as a base to work with, because it had the dimensions I wanted: 30x14,5x24 iches (lxwxh).
It didn’t have a back panel, so I had to buy a thin board for that at the DIY store too.
I then used a hole saw that you can put on your power drill to make a vent hole in each side panel (diam. 2,5”). I had read somewhere to offset them from each other for better airflow.
Then I cut the back panel to size and cut a vent in there of 26x6”. The sliding mesh top on my current viv is 27x10”, but I lose humidity fast in that one, so I made and educated guess on the above measurements
I then painted the inside of the viv. I chose green, because I saw that at a lot of snake displays in San Diego zoo and it looked good.
I then cut a hole in the top of the viv and put wider mesh on it for the basking lamp.
I cut 2,5" of the shelf that came with the cupboard to make a ledge to stop substrate falling into the rails of the sliding doors.
I got ¼” plexi glass at the DIY store and glass door rails at a woodworking shop. I had to cut the plexiglass to size and then used strong glue to attach the rails (with the doors inside).
Then finally put door knobs on and put the lock in.
Now I just need to wait for the paint smell to go before I can move Carmelo to his new home. I'll post another picture once he has moved...
