They both are good, but for differant types of snakes, for pythons and boa's rats is the best way to go, but an odd mouse or chick thrown in wont hurt for a change.
For snakes like corns, kinks milks etc mice are a better full time meal with the odd rat or chick thrown in (as long as the snake is big enough to take a chick).
In both cases it's just a taste change and will be doing it on a 3 feed rotation when mine are big enough.
For example for my corns it would be 3 mice, then a rat then 3 mice then a chick, and so on. For sandy it is now 1 small mouse or 1 rat pup alternatley. For zeus he's only on rats at the min with him being very young, but as soon as he's big enough for a chick he'll be on the same rotation as chocky and blizzard will be on, till he out grows chicks then i'll have him on a 3 jumbo rat then a guini pig (sorry about spelling) or 2 chicks.
As to the actual nutrition you can find details in my next post when i'll post the differances between each sutable food type for all snakes.

youll find that those fed on rats put more body weight and attain a better size than those fed exclusively on mice because even a rat the same size as the mouse you are feeding is more bulky so is more nutritionally sound... chicks have no value at all except a bit of yolk and is a laxative for constipated snakes which is their only served purpose and being a very cheap food item(10p if that) i have for example a jungle corn and a amel corn both the same age(from different clutches but hatched roughly the same time) the previous owner of them fed the jungle on rats as would take them and the amel on mice as was reluctant to rats and now jungle is 5ft and amel is 4ft so makes quite a difference plus you can get bigger sized rats potential sizes of rat feeders is more than average with some getting to 6ft most of my snakes eat rats and have noticed a difference lee

Sweetyou get to feed him guinea pigs! That will be expensive I bet! I used to have 2 guinea pigs but then they died, they were such good pets I would never think of feeding them to snakes. But snakes are much cooler so they get fed whatever they want even if it is guinea pigs. In the future you have to get a pic of Zeus eating one it'll be so cool!
