TEXT Hi, It is so nice to find other people who are really into snakes! You all seem really friendly and helpful and hopefully I will learn loads! (actually already learnt alot through reading a few threads!) My name is Andrea and I am from Warwickshire, I am 28 and in December I got my 6 year old son a Cornsnake! THIS WAS A REALLY BIG DEAL AS I WAS PETRIFIED OF SNAKES! COULDNT EVEN GO IN THE REPTILE HOUSES AT ZOOS! Anyway after 3 hours in the shop I managed to get near the tank and now I love "Homer" to bits! I AM BESOTTED WITH HIM! He is a lovely looking "normal" corn (I think) A bit brighter in colour though than pictures I have seen, more red than brown. Sorry to bore you all but thought I'd introduce myself. ;D

Welcome to the forum, Andrea.
My girlfriend was petrified of snakes, too. Now we have 3 in the house.
Our newest addition (the one we currently have a couple of health issues with) was a birthday present for my 5-year-old son.
And Lee is right, they are very addictive. We'll be looking to buy a whole bunch of different ones once we get our own home. Looking into a Rosy Boa, also.

Hi to you all and thanks for replying. Will post a pic asap when I have one in focus (not too close!) A pic of Homer I mean! Thinking about my next corn already. Don't really know what type but I quite like the look of an Okattee or a reverse Okattee. Do any of you have these or any suggestions please? I think Homer would like a friend in a tank next to his. He is always interested in his reflection!

Well i did make the mistake of houseing two young corns together because i didn't know then that they can be cannabalistic but only if the other snake is tony compared to the other one or it can smell mice on the other one. You have to feed seperately. And theres the chance of breeding to early and the female may become eggbound. And once theyre housed during the breeding season you can't seperate them as the male could small the female and would drive him mad not being able to get to her putting him off food and could cause himself a injury. So always think twice before houseing together so far ive kept mine together for almost a year now and havnt had any problems but doesn't mean you won't or i won't in the future so please think twice. Okeetees though are very beautiful and im begging to think Rio is a okeetee as shes to light to be a miami.

I'd be too scared to put them in together! :)I am planning on having 2 tanks so they would be separate as I dont know if Homer is a he for definite! Dont want 2 boys fighting or anything like that. Neither do I want any breeding as couldnt cope with that yet! Sounds like loads of hard work and worry looking after eggs and I worry enough over Homer!
Maybe after a few years when Im a bit more relaxed about it all ;D.
Thanks for advice though. Where would you get your hatchlings from? Our local places only have "normal" and dont want to have to get them shipped!?

Thanks. How far would you think it would be ok for a corn to travel? I was worried doing about 10 miles when I got Homer.

A corn is a very hardy creature and can saftley cope with long distance travel if givern a week to get over it. Snake's do travel accross america every single day from the east to the west and anywhere in between on a plane without suffering any ill effects.
Hope puts people mind at ease, i mean whats america, 100 times bigger then the UK? and about twice the size of europe?

It takes me around a hour and half to get to and from both nbr and nrc and when ive bought my corns from both of them ive never had any ill effects.
