This is a growing and really bad problem with people buying reptiles without knowing how to look after them and knowing their husbandry needs and eventualy give up on them and dump them somewhere and its really disqusting so please people before buying any exotic do your research please!!

I did alot of research b4 I bought Homer but you can never know what you will encounter and everybodys advice is different. Every snake is different aswell so having different experiences from different people is really handy. A site like this is really good.

:)Also doing research does not always tell you why your snake is pulling a strange face or is he yawning and stuff like that! You are constantly researching!!!

I resurched for a couple of years on the net about corns, but before i had net access i was reading 2-3 books a week on the subject of snakes and reptiles in generay, i'm still resurching as eventually (when i can afford it in a couple of years) i intend on doing a combined phd in zoology and animal science.

ive always researched what ive kept but not as much as when i started as most of which i kept had similar care and needs like the corn, rat and kingsnakes all being north american colubrids etc i had to research the spiders and geckoes into much detail as i was only starting out id never go out and just buy on impulse as it wouldn't be fair on the animal really, ive been keeping them for narly 9 years now and have only kept things with quite basic needs anyway but in future oncew research has been done ill go onto more experienced stuff lee

I must confess that I didn't do any research until I bought Hashie. I'm bad. I went to the store originally looking for a green ribbon snake, but they didn't have any. They had a beautiful Snow Corn and Hashie, who was just little when I got her. I couldn't resist her, I loved her coloring. I bought a book when I got her, but the book isn't too good. I recently bought Kathy Love's Corn Snake Manual, and it's excellent. Between that, this forum, Steve's forum, and knowing people who have snakes I've learned how to properly care for my snakes. Thank you all. ;D

Im afraid i didnt do much before hand i did the usual feeding, housing and all that i would need just the basics. Since then i dont think i`ve missed a day on the forum reading or asking.Ithink that it would be unwise for a young person to buy just because they are cute cause sometimes the novelty can wear off pretty quickly. I knew after i knew the basics that i could and would do my best to look after and learn as much as i could about them.(had a garter bout 25yrs ago) I havnt encountered any big problems yet and hope i dont (fingers crossed)
