Hi,
I just wanted to introduce myself. One week ago I got my first snake, a caramel corn snake. His name is Carmello.
I came upon this site via Lozzer's site, which I was impressed with.
Being new to corn snakes I will probably have some nervous health questions, which will just turn out to be nothing serious or even normal.
I apologize in advance for those.
Once I have a good picture of Carmello I will add it to my profile.
Have a good one!
Bas ;D

Wow, what a welcome! I've been having a lot of fun reading up on all the old threads and looking at the pictures. Just a little about myself: I am Dutch, studied in Salford (I saw a lot of you live up North) and then worked a while in the UK. Moved back to Holland for a few years and then moved to Denver (American wife). I'd never seen snakes in pet stores before and here in the USA they are readily available. I first wanted to get a rough green snake to avoid having to deal with mice, but then you have to deal with escaping crickets and looking after them. I figured frozen mice don't escape too often. That opened up more snake choices. I read that corns are pretty and they are a good "beginner" snake. I had also set up my vivarium already for the semi-arboreal green snake, so although I love the Cali king snake and they also had some Mexican Milks, I picked the corn they had at the reptile specialist store, which happens to be the Caramel corn. I named him Carmello, because of the caramel and because the star basketball player of the Denver Nuggets is a young kid called Carmello Anthony. I avoided the "generic" pet store (read Petco), because I have little faith in their care for the reptiles and fish and their knowledge of the animal's background.

Always best to avoid petco, they have a very bad reputation on www.cornsnakes.com Their mice are good though, well from what i have heard. Salford, not far from me, just a couple of miles from manchester and probabley about a hour away by car.

I agree. After reading one book on snake keeping I was chatting to two guys from Petco and realized they were full of it. Just tell you anything for the sale. Apparently they are cheap for crickets, so I guess mice too.
In Denver I went to Scales n Tails. I can recommend them to anyone in the Denver area. Alternatively there is a reptile shelter in Denver too.
Yep, lived in Salford for 5 years. Loved Manchester, but no jobs in the area after graduation, so had to move daaaahn Soufff. Salford was a little rough if you're not local, but a few nice pubs and great kebab...

I don't know if it's a good uni . I lived for a little while outside Oxford, if you see those college buildings you know it must be good. That's also a fun town by the way, lots of young people, lots of nightlife. Salford is a small uni, so you easily make a lot of friends. You can pub crawl your way into Manchester and time it perfectly to end up in a club, before finishing off with a nice curry in Rusholme . Ahhhh memories. I'll have to go back some day.
