When i was in the reptile shop the man was telling me about some Boas he had recently got hold of. Dumeril's boas He had a phone call asking if he could get them. He asked them if they knew how rare and expensive the Boas were and they told him he did. He searched and searched eventually finding a seller he was selling 1 male and 2 females for £4500. He asked if he would be able to send him one and he said he would send a female. When the beast arrived it was not female but male. Dan phoned up annoyed but the man told him it had to be female as this was the male of the only breeding pair in Britain. Dan sure it was male told the man it was his own fault and and asked if he want to send down a female. The man agreed and for a short while Dan had the only breeding pair in Britain. Just after the female was taken away Dan realized 2 things one the male had just mated (he agreed to half the young with the man) and two he had sold it to the biggest breeder in Britain. Quite a story Also Amber just to say i saw a hatchling Brazilian Rainbow boa in the shop it was beautiful he got it out to show me but i did not get to handle it because it kept bitting and he said even at that age they hurt. This year he received the only six bred in Britain. Apparently he has the best price in the country at the moment. Also the best news is he said i could go down to help out next Saturday. I am well chuffed ;D ;D ;D i only went in for a bowl and they hadn't been delivered

dums aren't worth 4.5 grand at all and thats nosense the only breeding pair in britain..i have seen a few with pairs/trios of dumerils and they breed but all need to be microchipped as under the CITES listings and know plenty of places that stock them so they are rare to a extent but not hard to find in the uk. 90-150 each is a good price for neonates and 400-500 for pairs. whos the biggest breeder in britain? can i have his name as many breeders are specialist breeders so concerntrate on a particular speices www.pythonsandboas.co.uk/Available%20v3.htmcheck out here if your mate wants dumerils boas

Right this could be all my fault. What you have got to realise is that the guy talks a lot and it is very easy to get lost like when my mum went in to get pinkies and got a hour long talk about a baby owl that had just been handed in. It is quite possible the price was £1500 which would be about right for a proven breedin trio and that when he said the only breeding pair in the country he could have meant scotland.
The breeders name I am pretty sure was a Chris.

Awwww, I love Dumerils boas... don't they have to have micro chips?
if I had space for another pair of snakes, it would be dumerils, okay no I would probly get some more rainbow boas, but I will get a dumerils eventually!

Yeah They do have to be micro chipped and that male is absolutely stunning even though he is just about to shed . I have been doing some research and believe i did not hear Dan properly I will try and pay more attention next time so as not to post rubbish. SORRY
I tell you that if i would have been allowed i would have had the two remaining Rainbows without question of course they are no where near as colorful as yours being so young but still fascinating.
You know where to go to get the best price if you want more. In fact you could keep hold of one for me till my parents give in ;D.

Hehe, saying that I'm only hoping they will have baby rainbows, I guess there are no guarantees! But yeah, it'd be good to know theres a good home waiting for one!
The place where I bought my brbs from had quite a few dumerils, aw such pretty snakes.

I am hoping that if I do some days helping in the reptile shop my parents will decide i am ready for something a bit more challenging(seriously doubt it though). One person had a baby BCI out as well and it looked beautiful but i really don't know if I have the room for anything that size. What size do the rainbows get to? Oh also the man at the reptile shop reckons I shouldn't become a vet ( he says they all turn in to money grabbers) he says I should spend three years in the states getting a degree in herpetology,(I know what would be more fun )

a rainbow boa will get to around 6 foot and a common bci will get to 6-7 foot for a male an 7-9 foot for a female (in most snake types the female gets bigger than the male)

brbs don't get that big really 5-6' but stay much thinner than bcis, mine are both around 32" but look much smaller! Aw the snake shop has bcis in noooow £100 each, I couldn't handle the size though!

As I say i think it was probably the way he said it. "Lets just say it was into 4 figures £1500" and i got confused and he worded it "The only breeding pair in the country" This is in Scotland and with thorough searching i can not find any other breeders although there may be some.
What size of tank do rainbows need( doing my research already, don't let my parents know) I am small too. Hence the name but anything large is just a challenge and The bigger the better to a certain extent.

Rainbows generally max out at about 7 ft long, with about 5 ft being average (i believe). A 4ft by 2ft by 2ft viv should, i think do a brb for life.

Woah there John, you think it is a good idea to generalise all rainbows like that?
There are a few different kinda of rainbow boa, Guyanan rainbows are the smallest, I think.
If you mis-typed, and actually meant brazilians sorry, but its not very accurate to generalise all the sub species like that.
I plan to keep my adults brbs in the biggest plastic boxes I can find, a 4 x 2 x 1 should be fine, I'm not sure how much they like the climb, but mine aren't very good at it.
Some challanges just aren't worth it, I don't want to have to have another person there when I feed my snakes!
